FARID KHAN

Farid Khan was born on 1486 A.D. near Delhi. The young man who started his journey as a common man, had an ambitious dream of making an Afghan Empire in Delhi. He excelled in all kinds of Martial Arts, served as Commander in Chief for Bahar Khan, a petty King of Bihar. It was while Bahar Khan and Farid were on hunting animals in the thick forest, Farid Khan killed a fleeding tiger as an individual. Farid, then nicknamed as "Sher Khan" inorder to praise his heroism.

FARID KHAN AKA SHER SHAH SURI

Due to his tireless work and skill he joined as a frontier soldier during the reign of Zahir-ud-din-Muhammed Babur, the founder of Mughal Empire and then rose to become a Commander-in-Chief of Mughal Empire and later took charge as the Governor of Bihar. When Mughal Emperor Nasir-ud-din-Muhammed Humayun was elsewhere on a voyage, Farid Khan captured Bengal and established Suri Empire. He himself nicknamed as "Sher Shah Suri" after he entered the throne of Delhi. During his five year rule, his administration were so excellent.

He established Federal Government, the Governor's of States and the Broad Bureaucracy. Farid Khan's Empire was divided into 47 units called "Sarkar's", each of which was divided into several states. An Officer and and Auditor were appointed for each district. A Hindu official and a Muslim official were appointed to write the Daily Administrative Notes.

Empire of Suri's

EMPIRE OF SHER SHAH SURI

Sher Shah transferred officers to different areas every two to three years. Patta's were issued for land owners and farmers were encouraged. One-forth of the farmers income should be given to the Government. Advances and Loans were issued to farmers during famines. Loans were written off in the event of floods or heavy rain damage.

Grand Trunk Road

GRAND TRUNK ROAD BUILT BY SHER SHAH SURI

Sher Shah began to connect India with a very long and wide Grand Trunk Road from Chittagong (Present Bangladesh) to Kabul (Present Afghanistan), which are still in use. He continued to pave roads from Lahore to Multan and from Agra to Jodhpur. Also on the way, there were lot of fruit trees planted both sides of the roads to taste if hungry. A well for two miles and an inn for ten miles were built. The inn had separate areas for Hindus and Muslims to stay and worship. These inns were also functioned as Post Offices. The village youths were well trained in horse riding and added as Postmen. Letters and parcels were delivered quickly. Sher Shah is the first King to provide the first Courier Service in the World.Police forces were setup in every districts. The indictment was duly written. The sentences were harsh. Separate courts were created for Civil and Criminal cases. Promotions were given on the merit, not Hindu-Muslim. Sher Shah Suri was the first to introduce a full Silver Coin worth about One Rupee to India.

Sher Shah Suri's achievements during his rule is innumerable. Sher Shah Suri left the Great Administration on May 25, 1545 and rested in his grave.
